INDIANAPOLIS, IN – In a case that has left a community searching for answers, a family in Indianapolis is mourning the loss of a loved one after a woman was shot and killed in early September on the city’s west side. Despite clear video evidence capturing the shocking incident, the investigation remains unresolved.
The tragic event unfolded when Kira Dotson, affectionately known as Kia to her family, was sitting in her blue Chevy parked outside her home. Surveillance footage shows a red Dodge pulling up alongside her vehicle. Within seconds, gunfire erupted, and the assailant sped away, leaving Dotson fatally wounded.
Police responded to the scene shortly before 7 p.m. on a Friday evening in September. Dotson was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries soon after arrival. Her family, devastated by the senseless act, struggles to comprehend why anyone would target her.
Dotson’s sisters, Urea and Courtney, recall that she had just returned from dropping off her teenage daughter at a friend’s house. They insist that Dotson was not involved in any activities that might explain the attack. “We have no idea how this person is connected to her,” they said. “It just doesn’t make sense to us.”
Authorities confirmed they located the red Dodge seen in the video and interviewed a person of interest. However, no arrests have been made, leaving the family in a state of limbo. “Our family is 95 days and counting without answers,” they expressed with frustration.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) continues to investigate the case actively. They are urging anyone with information to come forward, either by contacting the IMPD Homicide Office or Crime Stoppers.
As the family grapples with their loss, they remain hopeful that justice will be served. They plead for the community’s help in identifying the killer, longing for closure and accountability for Dotson’s untimely death.
