HOUSTON, TX – A woman was fatally shot and a man was injured during a suspected case of road rage on Interstate 45 (I-45) early on Sunday morning. According to Houston Police Department reports, the shooting occurred in the 2300 block of Pierce Elevated in the southbound lanes near Louisiana Street.
Responding to the incident shortly after 1 a.m., Houston Police located an immobilized vehicle displaying signs of gunshot damage. The female driver was discovered deceased within the car, while a wounded man, having suffered a gunshot to the shoulder, was found nearby. The injured man was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment. Police also identified a third person present at the scene who did not sustain any injuries.
Early findings from the investigation suggest that the violence was precipitated by a traffic incident. The woman driving the car had reportedly cut off the suspect, believed to be behind the wheel of a black four-door sedan. According to police, the suspect then drove up alongside the woman’s car and discharged his firearm, injuring the male passenger and killing the woman, before fleeing the scene.
The police’s investigation resulted in a temporary closure of the southbound lanes of I-45.
Commander Jonathon Halliday of the Houston Police Department advised motorists on how they should handle such situations. He urged, “My advice is everyone gets frustrated but just don’t react. Try to separate yourself and go on. There’s nothing good in trying to engage with someone over a traffic disturbance.”
