Woman shot dead in apparent road rage incident

Authorities in Hurst, Texas, are on the lookout for a suspect involved in a fatal road rage shooting that claimed the life of a woman on Monday night. The incident occurred along East Loop 820, prompting a police response after receiving a distress call regarding a shooting victim. The victim, identified as 37-year-old Paola Nunez Linares, was found with a gunshot wound to her head and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries a few hours later.

According to the victim’s husband, Zane Jones, the couple was driving northbound on Loop 820 when they encountered an altercation with another driver. Jones recounted that he had gestured angrily at the driver, who then retaliated by brandishing a firearm and firing three shots at their vehicle. In a desperate attempt to protect his wife, Jones instructed her to take cover, but she was tragically struck in the head by one of the bullets. Following the incident, Jones immediately exited the highway and sought refuge at a nearby Shell station, where he awaited assistance.

Authorities are currently searching for the shooter, described as an unidentified individual driving a small, dark-colored older model car. No further details regarding the suspect have been provided at this time. The Hurst Police Department is urging anyone with information, including potential video footage or images, to come forward and help authorities in their investigation.

Zane Jones revealed that his wife, Paola Nunez Linares, had immigrated from Guatemala, where she had experienced multiple instances of robbery. He had believed that relocating to North Texas would provide a safer environment for her. In light of this tragic incident, a GoFundMe campaign has been established to help cover the costs of Nunez’s funeral expenses and to facilitate travel arrangements for her family to and from Guatemala.
