DETROIT, MI – A Detroit neighborhood was in shock early on Thursday morning when a shooting incident led to the tragic death of a young mother and left her child critically injured. The incident, which the police suspect is linked to domestic violence, took place in the vicinity of Whitcomb and Tireman at around 6:40 a.m.
The female victim, a woman in her 20s, succumbed to her injuries while her child was in critical condition in the hospital.
At this point in the investigation, the identity and age of the minor remain undisclosed by authorities. The suspect, later in the day, surrendered to the 6th Precinct of Detroit Police, pacifying some concerns in the community.
The crime scene on Whitcomb near Tireman buzzed with a dozen police and emergency vehicles investigating the case. Deputy Chief Jacqueline Pritchett mentioned that they had received reports of the child who was also victimized in the shooting and confirmed that they were transported to a hospital for medical attention.
While the investigation into this somber event in the Detroit community is still continuing, the residents are looking forward to updates and complete justice. The unsettling violence that unraveled so close to home left residents not only panicked but deeply saddened.
