Young woman and pet dog killed while helping friend leave an abusive relationship

SPRING, TX- In a deadly incident in Texas over the past weekend, a young woman and her pet dog lost their lives in a horrific case of gun violence. The woman was attempting to assist a friend in escaping an alleged abusive relationship when the incident occurred, according to law enforcement officials. The incident took place in an apartment complex in Spring, a suburb of Houston, early Saturday morning.

Responding to a call, police arrived at the scene around 5:30 a.m. They found a woman, later identified as 28-year-old Shantavia Reddick, in the elevator lobby of the apartment complex’s parking garage. Reddick had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez commented on the incident, describing it as a tragic outcome of domestic violence.

Reddick had gone to the apartment with the intention of helping her friend escape an ongoing domestic dispute. However, the situation escalated when the friend’s boyfriend, Dimitri Humphrey, allegedly began shooting at Reddick and her pet dog, resulting in their deaths. Reddick was declared dead at the scene.

Following the incident, Humphrey is believed to have left the scene in a white Jeep Wrangler. The apartment complex, located at 2323 E. Mossy Oaks Road, is near the Grand Parkway and North Freeway. Humphrey’s girlfriend, who Reddick had come to help, was not injured in the shooting.

Sheriff Gonzalez revealed that Humphrey is currently wanted on unrelated felony warrants. In addition to these charges, he will also face a murder charge in connection with this incident.
