Authorities report that both vehicles were taken from ride-share drivers at gunpoint, raising serious safety concerns within the community.
The most recent incident occurred at 2 a.m., when the teenager allegedly carjacked a Lyft driver in a northern part of the city. The driver reportedly picked up several teens, only to have one pull a gun and demand the vehicle. Police later located the stolen car, initiating a pursuit that ended with the teen’s arrest.
A similar event unfolded the previous night, involving the same teenager in a carjacking that led to another police chase. This incident also involved an Uber driver who was forced out of their vehicle at gunpoint. The proximity of these crimes, occurring just a mile apart, has heightened fears among ride-share drivers and law enforcement.
David Woods, a local ride-share driver, expressed his frustration, stating that the lack of consequences for such actions only emboldens young offenders. “Even if they’re kids, their actions have serious impacts,” Woods said, highlighting the anxiety shared by his colleagues.
