Abusive parents accused of killing 9-year-old son

ROSEVILLE, CA – A Roseville couple is facing accusations of abuse and murder of their 9-year-old son. According to the Roseville Police Department, on February 2, officers and firefighters attended a medical cordoning scene at a house on New England Drive.

Police found an unresponsive child at the scene. Despite their attempts to save the life of the boy, he passed away at the UC Davis Medical Center on Feb. 5. The police department expressed its deep sorrow over the heartbreaking incident, extending condolences to the bereaved family and friends.

Following a collaboration with the Placer County Children System of Care, the boy’s mother, 37-year-old Kimberly Blakley, was arrested by the Roseville PD in relation to the boy’s untimely death. She faces charges related to child abuse as well as murder. Currently, she is ineligible for bail, as per the jail records. The boy’s father, 37-year-old Cory Blakley was later arrested and charged with child endangerment and murder.

While no specific information has been released concerning the medical emergency the boy faced or his cause of death, police confirmed that it did not involve firearms. The police also noted that both parents had adopted the deceased child. Following the incident, the siblings of the boy are now under protective custody.

Concerning the incident, a local resident and mother, Brit Armstrong, stated that she saw the police respond to the medical call. Her children sometimes played with those of Kimberly Blakely. Another resident, Veronica Ronquillo, expressed her shock and fear upon hearing the news. She shared that her children would also play with the Blakely kids.

The Placer County District Attorney’s Office hinted at a likely arraignment taking place on the coming Friday.
