OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – A woman was arrested in Oklahoma City, accused of attempted child abuse, specifically trying to drown her two young relatives at a local aquatic center this past June.
The incident occurred in the shallow end of the Will Rogers Family Aquatic Center waters, where the two cousins aged four and six had been swimming. Despite the water being only three feet deep, both children were found unconscious by alert lifeguards.
However, the case took a shocking turn this week when police apprehended the mother of one of the victims, also an aunt to the other. Witnesses suggested that she had been seen forcibly holding the children under the water. Although the duration of their submersion remains uncertain, as stated in the affidavit, it highlights the life-threatening scenario.
“Two minutes is kind of that point of no return almost where you really want to get them back,” warned Mason Williams, supervisor for the Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department.
In latest developments, the accused woman’s daughter revealed to officers that her mother had tried to force her to swallow water during the incident. Notably, the life-saving actions were performed by young lifeguards, aged 16 and 21.
Although formal charges against the woman have been withheld, the police document states her insistence on her innocence, while paradoxically confessing it could be something she would do.
