Bride killed, groom injured right after their wedding by alleged drunk driver

A joyous wedding celebration turned tragic when a drunk driver crashed into a golf cart carrying a newlywed couple and their family members in Folly Beach, South Carolina. The bride, Samantha “Sam” Hutchinson, 34, was killed in the accident, and her groom, Aric Hutchinson, was left with severe injuries.

The devastating incident occurred just after 10 p.m. on Friday, as the couple left their wedding reception. The golf cart, driven by Aric’s relatives Ben and Brogan Garrett, was en route from the venue when it was violently struck from behind by a car traveling at an alarming 65 MPH in a 25 MPH zone.

The crash’s impact was so great that the golf cart was thrown over 100 yards. The cart also rolled multiple times after the collision.

Samantha, the bride, did not survive the crash. Aric, her husband, sustained a brain injury, multiple broken bones, and extensive bruising on his face. He has since undergone two reconstructive surgeries and remains in critical condition at the hospital.

Ben, one of the passengers, also suffered from injuries that caused him to be in critical condition. Brogan Garrett, the other passenger, sustained injuries in the crash as well.

The driver responsible for the accident has been identified as Jamie Lee Komoroski, 25. She was arrested and charged with DUI involving death and reckless homicide. While the results of her blood test are still pending, the police investigation has confirmed that she was driving at a reckless speed when she hit the golf cart.

In the wake of this tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up by Aric’s mother to cover the costs of Samantha’s burial and the medical expenses for Aric and his family. The couple, who resided in both Utah and South Carolina, were deeply in love and had just exchanged their vows hours before the fatal crash.

Samantha, originally from North Carolina, worked as an integral member of the team at XenTegra, an international IT provider headquartered in Huntersville, North Carolina. The company took to LinkedIn to share the heartbreaking news of her death, expressing their grief and shock at the loss of their beloved colleague.
