Carjacking suspect killed by police near ski resort

OLYMPIC VALLEY, CA – A suspect involved in an alleged carjacking incident was fatally shot by police officers in a California ski resort. According to authorities, the incident took place near Lake Tahoe on Friday.

The shooting took place around 10 a.m. near an event center at Palisades Tahoe, a location often used for weddings. The California State Parks Department indicated the unidentified suspect’s vehicle was initially pulled over due to its suspected involvement in a carjacking incident in Tahoe City, about 10 miles away.

However, the incident soon turned into a police pursuit. The high-speed chase ended with a crash near the events center. Allegedly armed with a knife, the suspect then exited the wrecked vehicle. This prompted the officer to use lethal force.

Further details about the pursuit- such as its starting point- and the identity of the officer remained undisclosed to the public at press time.

Palisades, the venue for the 1960 Winter Olympics, is situated on the western border of Lake Tahoe and roughly 40 miles from Reno, Nevada. Earlier this year, it experienced a deadly avalanche, which resulted in the death of a skier, marking the first U.S. avalanche fatality of the season.
