SAN JOSE, CA – A neighborhood in San Jose, California, is still grappling with shock following a fatal car accident involving a young boy on a scooter. The incident occurred at the Leigh and Camden intersection, a few hundred feet away from the residence of Lau, the mother of local resident Cường Nguyễn. Nguyen stated that his mother was at home on Tuesday when she heard a loud crash. She rushed out to find an 11-year-old boy lying on the ground.
According to police, a truck hit and killed the boy as he was attempting to cross the road on his scooter. The truck reportedly had a green light at the moment of impact. The driver stopped his vehicle in front of Lau’s house immediately after the incident.
The law enforcement officers informed that the driver is cooperating fully with their investigation and so far, it appears the mishap was an accident. “We don’t believe speed or alcohol were a factor. As far as we can tell right now, this is an absolute tragic accident,” stated Jorge Garibay, a Public Information Officer for the San Jose Police Department.
Nguyen reported that at the time of the accident, the victim was accompanied by three other boys. They stood, shaken, near the accident site, and Lau provided them with water as they waited for police arrival.
For Nguyen and his mother, the accident has been particularly distressing, disrupting their sleep and leaving them deeply saddened. Lau felt as if she had lost one of her own children, shared Nguyen.
