Police say Hammodi Ahmed Ali Al Naser faces two aggravated murder counts after the Saturday shooting at a home on Evelyn Drive.
NORTH OLMSTED, OH — A 44-year-old man has been charged with two counts of aggravated murder after his wife and 18-year-old son were fatally shot at their North Olmsted home, police said.
North Olmsted police identified the man as Hammodi Ahmed Ali Al Naser. Authorities said the shooting happened Saturday, Sept. 19, in the 3800 block of Evelyn Drive. Police described the case as an isolated family incident and said detectives were continuing to investigate. Authorities had not announced a motive as of Monday.
Police said dispatchers received a 911 call at about 2:10 p.m. from a person reporting that a neighbor had shot his wife and son. Police officers and firefighters were sent to the home, where they found the 18-year-old outside near the front of the residence with multiple gunshot wounds.
First responders provided aid to the teenager before he was taken to a local hospital, according to police. Authorities later confirmed that he died. Police said the second victim, a 42-year-old woman, was found inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police confirmed that the woman was Al Naser’s wife and the 18-year-old was his son. Authorities had not publicly identified either victim by name in the reports available Monday. Al Naser was taken into custody following the shooting and was held at the North Olmsted City Jail.
The two aggravated murder charges are allegations, and the filing of charges does not establish guilt. Al Naser was scheduled to appear Monday in Rocky River Municipal Court for an arraignment. No verified court update available Monday afternoon established a new bond amount or other change in his custody status.
Detective Lt. Matt Beck said the motive remained unknown as investigators worked to determine what led to the shooting. Police have characterized the case as a family incident and have not announced that another suspect is being sought.
North Olmsted Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones expressed sadness for the family and the community in a statement released through police. She also described domestic violence as an issue that affects communities broadly and said first responders work to keep residents safe in their homes and throughout the city.
The deaths came during a week in which North Olmsted police investigated another, unrelated fatal family shooting. In that case, an 18-year-old was charged after his 22-year-old brother was fatally shot at a different home several days earlier. Police have not indicated that the two cases are connected.
The Evelyn Drive investigation remains active. Police have not released a suspected motive or the victims’ names, and additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting had not been announced as of Monday.
