Child shot in the head during DoorDash delivery

LAWTON, OK – An 8-year-old boy is battling for his life following a horrifying shooting that occurred on Sunday evening. The boy was in his mother’s car, accompanying her during a DoorDash delivery, when the shooting took place.

Speaking about the tragic incident, the boy’s uncle, Eliaz Canez, shared with the media that his sister-in-law was finishing up on a DoorDash delivery in Lawton when their vehicle was shot at. The young boy and his mother were hit.

Canez paints a terrifying picture of the event, noting that his sister-in-law was reversing the car and, abruptly, their vehicle was under gunfire.

In critical condition, the boy is currently admitted to the Oklahoma Children’s Hospital. He has been sedated and put on a ventilator, as revealed by Canez.

Lawton Police confirmed that a suspect, Jullian Phillips, was arrested on Monday regarding the shooting. However, the law enforcement agency did not detail what led to Phillips being zeroed in as a suspect, only mentioning that he was believed to have connections to the incident.

Canez hopes that this frightening event was merely a case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time. He said, “I’m hoping that it wasn’t anything intentional especially to come at my family.”

He urgently hopes that his nephew will recover soon, saying, “My eight-year-old nephew doesn’t do anything but mind his business, but now here he is at OU Medical Center, heavily sedated for the next five days to make sure that there’s not any swelling on his brain.”

At this time, the Lawton Police has refrained from sharing any additional details about the incident or the arrest.
