Two Teens Charged After Deadly Apartment Shooting

An 18-year-old died and three other people were hospitalized after gunfire Friday evening on Boulevard Northeast.

ATLANTA, GA — Two teenagers face murder and other charges after a shooting at an Atlanta apartment complex left an 18-year-old dead and three other people injured, police said Saturday.

Atlanta police identified one of the accused teenagers as D’keiman Carter, 17. The other is a 16-year-old boy whose name was not released because he is a juvenile. Homicide investigators said they found probable cause to charge both teenagers in connection with the shooting, which happened Friday at 464 Boulevard NE.

Both teenagers were being held Saturday at the Grady Memorial Detention Center, according to the Atlanta Police Department. Police said each faces charges of murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The charges are allegations, and police have not released information about court appearances or whether either teenager has an attorney.

Zone 6 officers were called to the apartment complex at about 5:20 p.m. Friday after receiving reports that several people had been shot. Officers found four victims: boys ages 16, 17 and 18, and a 23-year-old woman.

Emergency crews took all four victims to a hospital. The 18-year-old died despite efforts to save him, police said. His name had not been released as of Saturday afternoon. The other three victims were hospitalized in stable condition, according to the Police Department.

The identities of the injured victims also had not been released. Police did not provide further information about their wounds or how long they were expected to remain hospitalized.

Officers initially said several people had been detained for questioning while homicide investigators worked at the complex. Police announced the charges against Carter and the 16-year-old the following day but did not say whether the teenagers were among those detained at the scene.

Investigators have not publicly described what led to the shooting, the relationship among the people involved or the evidence that led to the charges. Police also have not said whether additional suspects or charges are being considered.

The case remained under investigation Saturday. Police cautioned that the information released so far is preliminary and could change as investigators gather evidence and interview witnesses.
