A pregnant woman and her husband were found with fatal shotgun wounds inside their home early Friday, authorities said.
LOS ANGELES, CA — A pregnant woman and her husband were found shot to death inside a Westwood home early Friday in what Los Angeles police are investigating as a possible murder-suicide.
Officers responded at about 5:45 a.m. July 10 to reports of gunfire at a residence in the 1300 block of Holmby Avenue, near Wellworth Avenue and west of the Los Angeles Country Club. Police found the man and woman suffering from shotgun wounds inside the home. Los Angeles Fire Department personnel pronounced both dead at the scene.
Preliminary evidence indicates that the man shot the woman before turning the weapon on himself, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson said. The investigation remained open, and authorities had not announced a motive or explained what may have led to the shooting.
Police had not publicly released the couple’s names as of Saturday. The two were believed to be in their 40s, according to published reports. Officials also had not released further information about the pregnancy or said whether the unborn child was included in any official death count.
A neighbor, Rich Schultz, told KTLA-TV that the woman was about eight and a half months pregnant. He said the couple had held a baby shower at their home on July 4, less than a week before the shooting.
Schultz said the couple had appeared happy in public and were sometimes seen talking and walking hand in hand. He told the television station that he had not noticed signs of trouble. His account reflected what he observed as a neighbor and did not establish what happened inside the home before the deaths.
The shooting occurred in a residential section of Westwood near the Los Angeles Country Club. Police said there was no known continuing threat to residents in the surrounding neighborhood.
Authorities have not disclosed who reported the gunfire, whether a firearm was recovered or whether investigators found a note or other evidence that could explain the deaths. The Los Angeles County medical examiner is expected to formally determine the causes and manners of death.
The case remained under investigation Saturday. Police had not announced any arrests or identified another person being sought in connection with the shooting.
