LAS VEGAS, NV – Local authorities arrested two individuals in connection to a child abuse case involving an 11-year-old child found inside a “large metal enclosure.” The context under which the child was discovered was described by the police as demonstrating “inhospitable living conditions.”
The Henderson Police Department, collaborating with the Clark County School District Police Department, executed a check on the welfare of a student for a truancy issue Tuesday, around 10:15 a.m. Upon their arrival at a residence on the 2000 block of Silverton Drive, officers encountered the unsettling sight of an 11-year-old confined in a large metal enclosure.
Authorities identified the suspects as Misty Scanlan, 46, and Jeffrey Scanlan, 41, subsequently detaining them in the Henderson Detention Center under charges of child abuse and/or neglect.
Child Protective Services provided further assistance, aiding those involved in the ongoing investigation. However, due to the open nature of the case, police are not currently releasing further details.
Neighbors of the accused expressed shock and disbelief at the news, describing the family as generally quiet and private. Referring to the incident, one resident, Wanda Ockey, called it “gut-wrenching,” drawing attention to the lifelong impact such experiences could have on innocent children.
