Dad shot dead after confronting scooter thieves

A deadly shooting occurred in Aurora, Colorado, early Wednesday morning. A father was shot and killed during a confrontation with scooter thieves in his own backyard, according to the Aurora Police Department. The father and his son, who have not been named, were awakened by the sound of two suspects stealing scooters parked in their backyard. They immediately went outside to confront the thieves, but the suspects managed to escape with the stolen property. Determined to catch the culprits, the father and son pursued them in their pickup truck.

During the chase, shots were fired at the vehicle, prompting the father and son to return home. To their horror, they witnessed a vehicle driving by the front of their house and firing several rounds into their home. Tragically, one of the bullets struck the father, causing a fatal injury. Despite the efforts of officers and emergency responders, the 49-year-old man succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, with authorities identifying multiple scenes connected to the incident. The stolen scooters were later recovered in nearby yards. The suspects, however, remain at large and have not yet been identified. Despite this, law enforcement officials have assured the public that there is no immediate threat to their safety.
