LOS ANGELES, CA – A man in his forties was fatally shot while dining at a restaurant in the popular tourist area of L.A. Live on Tuesday night, leading to an intensified police presence in the downtown locale. The shooting occurred at Fixins Soul Kitchen, a restaurant owned by former NBA All-Star Kevin Johnson, located at 800 West Olympic Boulevard near the Peacock Theater and Crypto.com Arena.
Authorities received calls about the incident around 6:15 p.m. It is believed that the victim was targeted by the suspect, who arrived in a vehicle on Figueroa Street and then entered the restaurant wearing a mask. The police say that the assailant opened fire at the man who was seated at a table, also grazing a nearby woman with a bullet.
The gunman quickly fled the scene before police could arrive. Both the victim and injured woman were rushed to the hospital, where the woman is listed in stable condition. However, the male victim ultimately died from his injuries.
The area of L.A. Live has seen stricter security measures following the incident. Visitors were stunned by the violent attack in what is seen as a safe and bustling part of the city.
Ania Wright, a local resident said, “Yes, here especially because we do have all of the new buildings and stuff like that, it’s very shocking.” Representatives from Fixins Soul Kitchen released a statement expressing their shock and sadness over the incident, extending their sympathies to the victim’s family and loved ones.
Police are still investigating and have yet to release the identity of the victim. They are urging anyone with information about this fatal shooting incident to contact the Los Angeles Police Department or make an anonymous tip through L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers.
