Police say the 27-year-old slammed another woman onto a roadway during a fight before attempting to leave on a scooter.
DELAND, FL — A Deltona woman faces felony charges after DeLand police said she slammed another woman head- and neck-first onto a paved roadway during a fight Tuesday afternoon, leaving the woman unconscious and in critical condition.
Tishana A. Anglade, 27, was arrested Sept. 1 on charges of aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability and resisting an officer without violence, according to reporting based on a DeLand Police Department arrest affidavit. Police said officers witnessed part of the confrontation near East Rich Avenue and North Boston Avenue shortly before 3 p.m.
An officer responding to a report of a fight said Anglade and the other woman were actively fighting in the intersection when police arrived. As another uniformed officer approached, investigators said Anglade lifted the woman and slammed her onto the asphalt. The officer reported that the woman then appeared to suffer a seizure.
The injured woman remained unconscious but was breathing when emergency medical crews arrived, according to police. Volusia County EMS took her to Halifax Health Medical Center as a trauma alert. Hospital personnel later told investigators she had been intubated and was in critical condition. Police said her condition had not changed when officers checked again Tuesday evening.
The woman’s name was withheld from the arrest affidavit under Florida’s Marsy’s Law, which provides certain protections for crime victims. Authorities had not publicly released a newer update on her medical condition in the reports reviewed Wednesday.
Police said Anglade moved toward a nearby scooter after the confrontation and tried to leave the area. An officer ordered her to stop and warned that a Taser could be used, according to the affidavit. Anglade eventually stopped and got onto the ground, and officers took her into custody.
Anglade gave investigators a different account of how the confrontation began. After being advised of her rights, she told police that she and the other woman had been having problems with each other and that the woman had indicated she wanted to fight. Anglade said she initially left but later returned, and she alleged that the other woman attacked her and punched her in the face.
Separate reporting citing police described a dispute between the women that had lasted about a year before Tuesday’s confrontation. The arrest affidavit, as described in news reports, does not establish who initiated the fight, and Anglade’s account remains an allegation. Police said they arrested her because of the severity of the other woman’s injuries and because officers believed Anglade attempted to leave as they arrived.
Booking information showed Anglade was taken into custody in Volusia County following the incident. The criminal charges are allegations, and the available reports did not indicate that a court had determined her guilt. No additional information about the victim’s recovery or further charges had been announced as of early Thursday.
