Doctor riding bike killed by speeding driver

PHILADELPHIA, PA – A horrific accident in the Center City area of Philadelphia has claimed the life of a pediatric cancer doctor. Barbara Friedes, 30, who worked at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), was riding in a bike lane when she was struck by a speeding 68-year-old driver.

The collision resulted in Friedes being thrown over 30 feet, causing severe head injuries that led to her death at the hospital.

The chaotic scene unfolded at around 7 pm on Wednesday, leaving witnesses traumatized by the gruesome event. One witness recounted seeing Friedes upside down in the air, describing the incident as their “deepest fear.”

Following the collision with Friedes, the driver proceeded to hit two parked cars, causing his vehicle to spin 180 degrees before stopping, facing the opposite direction. The driver was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

After the accident, Friedes’ family and coworkers remembered her as a kind and compassionate person whose death will deeply affect the community, including her young patients at CHOP. The Philadelphia Police Department stated that no arrests have been made at this time, but the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
