Dog breeder found dead in possible homicide, puppies missing

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, CO – A 57-year-old dog breeder named Paul Peavey was found dead in mysterious circumstances. Approximately 10 of his Doberman puppies are currently unaccounted for, according to Colorado authorities.

Peavey was last heard from on the night of Aug. 19 and was reported missing on Aug. 21. A deceased adult male was found by a privately-organized search party three days after his disappearance. The coroner’s office later identified the deceased as Mr. Peavey, and officials are set to conduct an autopsy to ascertain the cause and nature of his death.

Peavey, known for his dog breeding activities, has reported that a significant number of Doberman puppies were missing from his property following his death. The Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the possible connection between the puppies’ disappearance and Peavey’s death.

The Sheriff’s Department is urging the public for assistance in locating the missing pups, adding they could contribute heavily to solving Peavey’s murder. They believe that puppies may have been sold using social media platforms or other methods since Aug. 20. Peavey had all his puppies microchipped, and the Sheriff’s Office is encouraging anyone who purchased Doberman puppies in the central Colorado area within the last week to check for microchips and get in touch with their office.

The authorities are appealing to anyone who did business with Peavey’s breeding operation, Elite European Dobermans, since June 2024 to contact them. This will aid in ascertaining the accurate number of puppies unaccounted for.

The investigation is in preliminary stages, and future updates that won’t compromise the investigation or legal proceedings will be made available to the public, as per the police statements. Anyone with information on this investigation is asked to reach out to the Sheriff’s Office.
