BROOKLYN, NY – In a shocking episode in Brooklyn, an elderly couple was found brutally stabbed to death within their apartment in Borough Park on Saturday night. Local residents and sources described the offender, who was taken into custody, as a “disturbed” individual.
Law enforcement responded to a 911 call around 5:20 p.m. at 1158 45th St. and found a 75-year-old man and woman with multiple stab injuries over their bodies. The couple, identified as Jacob and Rachel Sperber, were transferred to Maimonides Hospital and were confirmed dead on arrival, the NYPD said.
After the ghastly act, the alleged perpetrator barricaded himself within the apartment. He is described as a bald man with glasses, a beard, and red scratches on his head. An unresponsive suspect was strapped onto a stretcher and removed amid a crowd of onlookers.
The NYPD has confirmed that a 46-year-old man was apprehended as a person of interest roughly an hour after the initial call. While police have not publicly named the man or stated his connection with the victims, law enforcement insiders and neighbors revealed to The Post that the detainee was the adult son of the victims who had a history of “issues.”
A call to Hatzolah, a Jewish volunteer emergency service, had initially reported a disturbance from an apartment overhead. Local residents described the son as “disturbed” and “awkward,” while others fondly remembered his parents as “quiet” and “nice.”
His father, Jacob Sperber, was particularly regarded as a beloved community figure who would feed the hungry and invite them to his home. No arrests or charges have been filed as of midnight in this investigation.
