Elderly Woman Shot by Driver with Road Rage

A 65-year-old woman sustained critical injuries during a road rage incident in Gainesville on Wednesday morning.

A 26-year-old man has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting.

According to authorities, the confrontation began on Ga. 365, north of Gainesville. There was a dispute between the 26-year-old suspect and another man. The situation escalated, and the suspect opened fire with a handgun at YMCA Drive.

Multiple shots were fired, striking the other man involved in the altercation. The injured man drove south into Gainesville before pulling over and contacting the police. His injuries were reported to be minor.

The 65-year-old woman, who was driving in the vicinity, was hit by one of the fired shots. Gainesville Police reported that she was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The suspect also had a 2-year-old child in the car during the shooting.

In addition to the aggravated battery and attempted murder charges, the shooter was charged with criminal damage to property, reckless conduct, and aggravated assault. He is currently being held at the Hall County Jail.
