Eleven people stabbed at Walmart

TRAVERSE CITY, MI – A shocking incident unfolded at a Walmart in Traverse City, where a man attacked shoppers with a folding knife, injuring 11 individuals. Authorities responded swiftly to the scene after receiving a call at 4:43 p.m.

Sheriff Mike Sheay reported that a deputy arrived within three minutes, with assistance from a courageous bystander helping to detain the 42-year-old suspect, who acted alone. The victims, including six men and five women, are being treated, with five in serious and six in critical condition.

The Michigan State Police Crime Lab is investigating, and Walmart will remain closed until the scene is processed. Sheriff Sheay emphasized the need for vigilance, reminding residents that no community is immune to violence.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer expressed her condolences and gratitude to the first responders. Representative Jack Bergman also shared his concerns and pledged to monitor the situation closely.

Speculation arose on social media about a concealed carry permit holder’s involvement in subduing the suspect, but officials have not confirmed this. Details about the suspect’s motive and mental health remain unclear.

No Walmart employees were reported injured, and first responders were unharmed. Authorities urge the public to report any suspicious activity as the investigation continues.

The community response was swift, preventing further tragedy. Officials remind residents to stay alert and vigilant in the face of such incidents.
