Five people shot near the Lincoln Park Zoo

In an unsettling event early Saturday morning, five individuals were injured in a shooting incident in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood. The episode, which occurred around 4:40 a.m., unfolded near the Lincoln Park Zoo.

Among the victims was an 18-year-old woman who was rushed to Northwestern Hospital. She is currently reported to be in good condition. Additionally, four men, aged 23, 27, 31, and 44, managed to get themselves to Northwestern Hospital. However, their injuries were more severe, and they are all listed as being in critical condition.

The area around the incident was active with investigators as they combed through the scene for clues. The investigation continued undeterred, even as a local farmers market took place a few feet away.

Residents of Lincoln Park are understandably rattled by the incident. Many, like Chris Huff, are distressed at the increasing need to be hyper-aware of their surroundings even in their own neighborhoods. He expressed his frustration at constantly having to look over his shoulder, an added stress to daily life.

The factors leading to the shooting remain unclear. Further complicating matters is the lack of cooperation from the victims. Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
