VICTORIA, TX – A dramatic scene unfolded on a South Texas highway when a small aircraft crash-landed, leaving four people injured. The incident occurred when a Piper PA-31, a twin-engine propeller plane, made an emergency landing on the access road of a busy highway in Victoria, located southeast of San Antonio.
The aircraft, with only the pilot onboard, descended perilously close to the freeway overpass before colliding with several vehicles on the ground. As the plane touched down, its fuselage split, sending debris across the roadway and damaging three cars. One of the vehicles ended up with part of the wreckage resting on its roof.
Emergency services quickly responded to the chaotic scene. One individual was airlifted to a nearby hospital, while three others were transported by ambulance. Fortunately, all injuries were reported as non-life-threatening. The pilot, though bloodied, remained conscious and was being evaluated by medical professionals.
A witness, who was among the first to arrive at the crash site, recounted his attempt to assist the injured pilot. “I ran to the plane and saw the pilot still strapped in. He was at an awkward angle, and while I tried to unbuckle him and pull him out, the doors were blocked,” the witness said. “Despite the situation, he was conscious, which was a relief.”
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the crash. Both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are conducting investigations to uncover what led to the emergency landing.
