Fugitive captured in Ukraine after 30 years on the run

TUCSON, AZ – A fugitive who had evaded capture for over three decades has been apprehended in Ukraine, closing a long and troubling chapter for the victims involved. Daniel Brewster, wanted on numerous child molestation charges, was convicted in absentia in 1992 but managed to elude authorities until last week.

Brewster’s escape began after he was charged with 15 counts of felony molestation following an investigation into abuse at a Tucson daycare center where he was employed. The offenses, which occurred between 1984 and 1991, involved four children aged four to nine. Although Brewster was arrested on New Year’s Day in 1992, he fled before the trial commenced later that year.

Despite his absence, Brewster was found guilty. However, his whereabouts remained unknown until authorities tracked him down in Kyiv, Ukraine. He was reportedly living under a false identity, which complicated efforts to locate him.

The successful capture involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, who worked together to ensure Brewster’s arrest. His former brother-in-law, Oscar Herrera, expressed relief and gratitude upon hearing the news.

“I’ve been searching for him for 30 years,” Herrera said. “It’s a huge relief to know he’ll finally face justice. This is a significant step toward closure for the victims, who are now adults.”

Herrera never gave up hope, continually seeking information and collaborating with the FBI and U.S. Marshals. His efforts, along with those of law enforcement, have finally paid off.

As of now, there is no confirmation on Brewster’s extradition to Arizona. However, his capture marks a pivotal moment in a case that has haunted many for years.

The community, along with the victims and their families, awaits further legal developments, hopeful that justice will soon be served.
