The family and friends of James Dean, a 41-year-old man who was shot and robbed at a bus stop in Decatur, Georgia, gathered on Saturday to mourn his loss and pay tribute to his life. Dean’s loved ones remembered him as a giving man who was always serving others, including a friend he had just assisted before his death.
According to his cousin Kyonna Jones-Carter, “My family, we’re hurting. We’re grieving, and we just want justice.” She added that Dean’s life was cut short due to the decisions made by two individuals, and it was crucial to her that they be brought to justice.
Dean’s daughter, 14-year-old Aramani Ward, also spoke at the funeral, describing her deep sense of loss and how she saw her father in herself every time she looked in the mirror. She recalled the happy moments they shared, including a recent daddy-daughter dance.
Dean’s family described him as caring and humorous, someone who always made others laugh. They are still grappling with the sudden and violent nature of his death.
The shooting, which occurred on February 17, 2023, at the MARTA bus stop at Candler and Glenwood Roads, was captured on surveillance video. Police are urging anyone with information to contact the DeKalb County Police Department.
