Little Rock Shooting Leaves Two Dead, Three Critically Injured

Police said multiple suspects were taken into custody after gunfire erupted Thursday evening at a Circle K near UA Little Rock.

LITTLE ROCK, AR — Two people were killed and three others were critically injured Thursday evening in a shooting at a Circle K convenience store near the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, authorities said.

Little Rock police responded at about 5:18 p.m. Oct. 15 to the Circle K at 6201 Colonel Glenn Road, near its intersection with South University Avenue. Police said multiple suspects were later taken into custody as investigators worked to determine what led to the shooting. The names of the people killed, those injured and the detained individuals had not been released as of early Friday.

The shooting prompted a large law enforcement response around the convenience store, which sits across the intersection from the UA Little Rock campus. Officers restricted access to the immediate area while investigators examined the scene. Three surviving victims were reported in critical condition and were receiving treatment at hospitals, according to police.

Authorities said investigators used Flock camera technology to track two vehicles that left the area after the shooting. Police did not immediately say how many people were inside the vehicles, how many suspects were in custody or whether any of those detained had been formally arrested or charged. Officials also had not announced a suspected motive.

Witnesses interviewed by KATV reported seeing more than one shooter, but police had not publicly confirmed that account. Acting Little Rock Police Chief Michael “Joe” Miller said Thursday evening that injured victims had been taken to different hospitals but did not initially provide a detailed casualty count. Police later confirmed that three people remained in critical condition.

Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott Jr. went to the scene and described the shooting as a senseless act of violence. He said he was grateful for the rapid police response and expressed sympathy for the families of those killed and concern for the wounded. Scott also said he had prayed with the wife of one of the victims at the scene.

The Circle K is at the southwest corner of Colonel Glenn Road and University Avenue, while the UA Little Rock campus is on the northeast side of the intersection. The same business was also the site of a fatal shooting in February 2024 in which one person was killed and another was injured.

Police had not released the identities of the two people killed as of Friday morning. Authorities also had not announced charges against anyone detained or provided additional information about what investigators believe happened before the gunfire began.

The Little Rock Police Department said the investigation remains active. Detectives are expected to continue reviewing evidence, surveillance material and witness information as they work to establish the sequence of events and determine whether charges will be filed.
