CLAY COUNTY, MO – A Missouri man, already facing charges for sexual assault, has been indicted for the murder of a second woman. This addition to his charges in Clay County includes allegations of “homicidal violence” linked to the death of 36-year-old Jaynie Crosdale, who suffered fatal impact wounds consistent with a gunshot, according to Prosecuting Attorney Zachary Thompson.
Timothy M. Haslett of Excelsior Springs, who was previously charged in October 2022 with multiple counts including rape, sodomy, and kidnapping, now faces a murder charge as well. His charges stem from a horrifying case where he allegedly kept a woman chained in his basement, subjecting her to repeated sexual assaults and torture. The bond for his detainment is set at $5 million.
The case took a turn when a woman, having escaped from Haslett’s basement, informed police about her ordeal. According to reports, after agreeing to go with Haslett for a promised monetary payment, she was forcefully held at gunpoint, raped, and subjected to narcotics. This brutality extended into daily torture sessions in Haslett’s locked basement, which she endured until escaping when Haslett was supposedly busy with domestic chores.
During her captivity, Haslett allegedly boasted about previously murdering two other women who had been kidnapped and subjected to similar tortures. He reportedly warned the survivor about a similar fate if she failed to comply.
The investigation into Haslett’s heinous crimes deepened when, in June 2023, kayakers discovered a skeleton in a barrel by the Missouri River. Authorities later identified the remains as those of Crosdale, who had been missing and was featured on a Kansas City billboard as part of a missing person campaign.
The exhaustive investigation involved following over a hundred leads and dedicating more than 1,200 manpower hours, as stated by Thompson. Though Haslett’s public defender, Tiffany Leuty, has not provided any comment on the new charges, the legal proceedings aim to address the breadth of Haslett’s alleged criminal actions.
This case signals a continued commitment from local law enforcement in pursuing justice for Crosdale, the surviving victim, and potentially other undisclosed victims of Haslett’s prolonged abuse and violence. The community and authorities alike continue urging anyone with further information to come forward as the investigation remains active.
