Man charged in dating app murders

LOS ANGELES, CA – In a chilling case unfolding in Los Angeles, a man from Inglewood faces serious charges related to a series of violent crimes linked to an online dating app. The suspect, 34-year-old Rakeem Prowl, appeared in court today, accused of murder and attempted murder in a disturbing pattern of attacks.

Authorities allege that Prowl used a dating app to lure his victims before subjecting them to brutal violence. His criminal activities reportedly extend beyond the recent accusations, with a history of burglarizing homes in Beverly Hills between 2019 and 2021 while masked as a horror movie character.

Prowl’s criminal behavior allegedly escalated in July 2021, when he met 51-year-old Miguel Angel King through the app. Prosecutors say Prowl shot King, stole his car, and disposed of his body in the Angeles National Forest, where it was discovered a month later.

Another alleged victim, 53-year-old Robert Gutierrez, reportedly disappeared in August 2023 after connecting with Prowl online. Gutierrez’s family reported him missing, but he remains unfound.

In a separate incident in 2025, a 40-year-old man became another victim after meeting Prowl through the app. Authorities claim Prowl assaulted the man, stole his wallet, and attacked him with a baseball bat. Despite suffering severe injuries, including a broken leg, the victim managed to survive.

Police apprehended Prowl last week, discovering Gutierrez’s car in his garage and forensic evidence connecting him to the crimes. The district attorney emphasized the severity of the charges, noting that Prowl could face significant prison time if convicted.

The investigation continues as authorities seek to uncover more details about Prowl’s alleged crimes. The community remains on edge as they grapple with the shocking revelations of violence linked to a seemingly innocuous online platform.
