Man dies after being run over by his girlfriend’s car

A domestic dispute in Phoenix, Arizona took a tragic turn on Saturday evening, resulting in the death of a man who was hit by his girlfriend’s car.

Shortly past 9:30 p.m., police arrived a residential neighborhood in resopnse to a domestic violence report. The call was placed by a woman who informed the dispatcher that she had accidentally run over her boyfriend as she attempted to leave the scene in her car.

Officers found a critically injured man lying in the road. The man, later identified as 29-year-old Marceliano Herrera, was receiving aid from a woman – presumably his girlfriend. The paramedics swiftly transported Herrera to a local hospital. However, he passed away from his injuries shortly after.

As the police commenced their investigation into the accident, a witness recounted a critical piece of the puzzle. According to their account, Herrera had been clinging onto the passenger door handle of the vehicle as his girlfriend tried to drive away. He lost his grip and tumbled, getting run over by the moving vehicle.

Following the incident, the driver immediately stopped, dialled 911, and rushed to provide medical help to Herrera. Detectives evaluated her condition, confirming she was not impaired at the time of the incident.

Authorities released the woman as they continue to probe the circumstances leading to the tragic event. The outcome of their findings will determine the next course of legal action.
