GOODYEAR, AZ – In a fatal incident on Memorial Day evening, a young man was struck and killed by a vehicle while returning home from a friend’s house in West Valley. The Goodyear Police Department identified the victim as 25-year-old Devin Firth. The accident occurred at the intersection of 167th Avenue and West Canyon Trails Boulevard, close to Cotton Lane.
Firth was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries. According to local law enforcement, the driver implicated in the deadly event was under 18 and suspected of speeding at the time of the accident. The underage driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the officers present.
At present, no charges have been made. However, an investigation is ongoing into the fatal accident. The incident has left Firth’s family in a state of shock and mourning. His cousin, LaWanda Brice, shared fond memories of Firth and the special bond he had with her son.
Taken abruptly, Brice mentioned that Firth was set to turn 26 soon and was engaged. On the fateful Monday evening, around 6 pm, he was walking home from a friend’s house, a routine activity that ended tragically.
Firth’s untimely demise also imposes an unexpected burden of funeral expenses on the aggrieved family. Brice pleads for more attentive and careful driving on the road, emphasizing that no urgency is significant enough to cost a life.
