Man firing gun at neighbors shot by police

MIAMI, FL – The search for answers is underway following a police-involved shooting in Miami’s Liberty City neighborhood. Authorities are investigating after an early morning confrontation on Monday led to officers opening fire.

Surveillance footage captured the moments leading up to the incident, showing a man firing a gun several times before collapsing. Police quickly moved in, identifying the individual as 37-year-old Joseph Tilley, according to his mother.

Miami police stated they were responding to 911 calls about an armed man wearing black and actively shooting. Upon arrival, officers confronted Tilley and, after a tense standoff, one officer discharged their weapon, striking Tilley.

Tilley was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. His mother expressed confusion and fear, recounting the moment she was informed he had been shot in the head.

The incident occurred around 7 a.m. near Northwest 59th Avenue and 64th Street. Witnesses in the area reported hearing multiple gunshots, describing the scene as chaotic and alarming.

A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted hearing a series of loud bangs followed by a pause, then more gunfire. “It was terrifying,” she said, still shaken by the event.

Police confirmed a firearm was recovered at the scene. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting a thorough investigation, as is standard protocol in police shootings.
