FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – A chilling piece of surveillance footage has emerged as a key component in the investigation of a grisly murder that has left a Fort Lauderdale community reeling. The video, obtained exclusively by local sources, shows the moments leading up to and following the brutal killing of a local jeweler, Anthony de Moraes, 73, whose absence raised alarm among his family and friends after days of silence.
Investigators have linked the murder to a soured business transaction involving a Rolex watch. According to police, 56-year-old Nenad Milosevic, now in custody, is accused of killing de Moraes after a dinner meeting on December 20. The two were captured on camera entering de Moraes’ jewelry workshop in an office building along the 6200 block of North Federal Highway at around 10 p.m.
The footage shows de Moraes in a light blue shirt and Milosevic in a black sweater, both appearing calm as they entered the building. The video later captures Milosevic exiting the premises alone in the early hours of December 21, carrying a bag and a large item wrapped in a blanket.
Authorities report that Milosevic confessed to the murder, stating that he had taken 20 pieces of jewelry and a video recorder from the workshop. The motive, police say, stemmed from a financial dispute over the purchase of a Rolex watch. Milosevic allegedly told officers he was attempting to buy jewelry for his girlfriend for Christmas but fell $4,000 short on the deal.
The situation escalated when de Moraes reportedly increased the price of the Rolex due to Milosevic’s delayed payments. Tensions between the two men boiled over when de Moraes refused to exchange other items for the money already paid, leading to a violent confrontation.
Two days after the incident, on December 23, authorities discovered de Moraes’ body inside the workshop, bearing severe injuries to his neck, back, and head. The investigation into the murder revealed the harrowing details of the attack, which has shocked the local community.
Milosevic now faces a second-degree murder charge and remains detained at the Broward County Main Jail. The case underscores the dangers that can arise from financial disputes and the tragic consequences that can follow when conflicts escalate beyond control.
