Man killed by oncoming cars while chasing after his runaway dogs

SAN ANTONIO, TX – A deadly incident took place on a busy Texas highway when a local man lost his life while trying to retrieve his runaway dogs. The fatal accident happened around 10 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, on Interstate 10 near Dietrich Road, in San Antonio, according to local law enforcement.

The unidentified man, reportedly in his thirties, was driving his RV when mechanical problems forced him to pull over to the right shoulder of the highway. In the process, his two dogs escaped the vehicle, leading the man to chase them down the road.

As per local radio station KTSA, the man succeeded in catching one of the dogs but met a tragic end. He was hit by a commercial propane truck while attempting to bring the dog back to his vehicle. Although the truck driver stopped and tried to assist the man, he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The dog that the man had recovered was left severely injured by the incident, while the other dog remained unharmed.

Local media outlets shared raw footage from the accident scene, capturing the RV with an ajar license plate, a lone shoe in the middle of the road, and workers from the City Of San Antonio Animal Care Services escorting one of the dogs away from the location.

A word of advice for dog owners comes from the American Kennel Club, cautioning against chasing dogs if they get loose. The organization emphasizes the importance of maintaining calm, as dogs can often sense fear and could potentially run faster and more recklessly.
