DARBY, PA – Police in Delaware County have arrested a man for the second time in recent weeks on charges of sexual assault. Authorities fear there may be additional victims who have yet to come forward. Nafees Alexander, 30, was taken into custody and appeared in court on new charges, remaining silent as he was escorted into a police van, handcuffed and shackled.
Alexander was initially arrested in February for a separate rape charge but was released after posting 10% of a $100,000 bail. This second arrest follows new allegations from another woman who claims a similar incident occurred at Alexander’s home in July. Police report that both women had voluntarily visited the residence but allege that the situation took a dark turn once they were alone with him.
The ongoing investigation has led authorities to believe there could be more victims. “We’ve gathered evidence suggesting that there are additional victims who have not yet come forward,” a police spokesperson stated. They emphasized the importance of creating a safe environment for victims to report their experiences.
A woman who claims to have known Alexander since childhood and describes him as a military veteran and friend, expressed disbelief at the charges. “He’s always been a genuine person who wouldn’t force anyone to do something against their will,” she said, adding that Alexander has been well-regarded by women in their community.
Despite the support from some acquaintances, law enforcement is urging any potential victims to come forward. “It’s vital that anyone affected speaks to us so we can proceed with the investigation,” the police spokesperson continued. Authorities assure the public that Alexander is currently in custody, addressing concerns about his previous release on bail.
Following this second arrest, Alexander’s bail has been increased significantly, now set at $500,000. However, police officials have expressed concerns that even this higher bail amount may not be sufficient to keep him detained, given the gravity of the charges.
