Man shot to death by police at Walgreens store

COBB COUNTY, GA – Late Friday evening, Cobb County witnessed an officer-involved shooting currently being investigated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). The incident took place around 11:30 p.m. at a Walgreens store located at 2670 Cobb Parkway SE.

Local law enforcement officers from Cobb County Police Department reportedly identified Nathian Jenkins, 32, from Valdosta, who was said to be wanted for unspecified charges. Police reports indicate that Jenkins was armed with a gun within the store when the confrontation ensued leading to Jenkins being shot by the police.

Following the encounter, Jenkins was immediately transported to Kennestone Hospital, where he eventually passed away. The scene produced a handgun believed to be Jenkins’.

Details of the event from a friend who claimed to be talking with Jenkins on FaceTime during the incident cast a different light on the shooting.

According to Haley Glaze, Jenkins had raised his hands in a gesture of surrender, repeatedly notifying the police about it. Unable to distinctly identify the object, the officers reportedly spotted a potential gun, prompting them to fire multiple times at Jenkins.

“‘My hands are up, my hands are up.’ I guess, you know, like when you raise your arms, your shirt raises a little, they saw it, and they yelled, ‘Gun, gun, gun,’ and they shot him multiple times,” recounted Glaze.

Others at the scene paid tribute to Jenkins and remembered him as a cheerful individual known for his positive energy.

Although the probe into the shooting is still ongoing under the leadership of the GBI, as it stands, additional particulars surrounding the case await release.
