MORGANTOWN, WV – The stabbing incident that led to the death of a 26-year-old man in Morgantown on Tuesday took place in the victim’s home, new court documents reveal. Jonathan Ramirez, the 23-year-old suspect, was arrested. He was charged with first-degree murder for the fatal stabbing of Jacob Patrick Lough, according to the court records.
These documents provide that Ramirez also took possession of Lough’s vehicle, subsequently parking it on West Virginia University’s campus. Security footage from the university gave authorities visual confirmation of Ramirez at various campus locations on Tuesday, including the Mountainlair.
In the footage, Ramirez was seen carrying cuts and bandages on his hands, which appeared to match bandages collected at the crime scene. After the West Virginia University Police Department located Ramirez, he was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 17. He is now being held without bond at the North Central Regional Jail.
Morgantown Police officers initially responded to a medical emergency report at a Milford Street residence around 4:39 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16. Upon their arrival, they discovered Lough’s body with multiple stab wounds. Despite Lough being pronounced dead at the scene, the investigation continued to unravel the circumstances leading to this tragic event.
While Ramirez is now in custody, the case continues to be investigated with the support of the West Virginia University Police Department.
