Mass at nightclub leaves 9 people shot, 2 trampled

A shooting incident at City Nightz, a nightclub in Wichita, Kansas, has left multiple people injured. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, prompting the closure of the club for the night. While no fatalities have been reported, the total number of people shot has risen to nine, with two additional individuals seeking medical attention for minor gunshot wounds. The victims, ranging in age from 21 to 34, include seven individuals who were shot and two others who were injured after being trampled by the crowd. One person is currently in custody, believed to be one of the shooters involved.

Wichita Police Lieutenant Aaron Moses revealed that the shooting took place following a disturbance inside the nightclub. The police were already present in the area due to previous issues with the parking lot and the temporary closure of the establishment. Upon hearing screams from inside the club, officers witnessed a large number of people exiting the premises. The swift response of the police allowed them to apprehend at least one suspect.

City and community leaders expressed their concerns during a press conference held on Sunday. Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan emphasized the need for action to address the increasing gun violence in the city. Mayor Brandon Whipple echoed this sentiment, calling for community engagement to discourage resorting to gun violence as a means of conflict resolution. Local pastor Pam Hughes emphasized the importance of unity and dialogue in order to create a safer community for all.

The Wichita Police Department is urging anyone with video evidence to come forward and help with the ongoing investigation. Additionally, individuals with any information related to the shooting are encouraged to contact WPD detectives or the See Something Say Something hotline. Anonymous tips are also encouraged, and police asked that those tips be submitted to Crime Stoppers.

As investigators continue to process the scene, the streets and surrounding area near City Nightz remain closed.
