Mass shooting at men’s hostel leaves eight dead

In South Africa, eight people were ruthlessly gunned down, and two others injured in a devastating mass shooting.

Armed assailants invaded a men’s hostel near the city of Durban in eastern South Africa. This act of violence took place in the early morning hours of Saturday in the Umlazi township, as stated by the police.

In a gruesome tally of casualties, seven victims died on the scene from their injuries. An eighth victim also passed away on Sunday as a result of the shooting.

A disturbing statistic from the country’s official crime data reveals the magnitude of gun violence that takes place there. In the initial quarter of this year alone, firearms claimed an average of 30 lives daily.

Moreover, during the same period, the police logged over 4,000 instances of illegal gun or ammunition possession.
