Mom gets life in prison for murdering her 3-year-old son

CLEVELAND, OH – A Cleveland woman, Tammeka Eggleton, 31, has been sentenced to life imprisonment after her conviction for the murder of her 3-year-old child, Curtis Witcher, in June last year.

Authorities confirmed that Eggleton pled guilty to charges of murder, felonious assault, and endangering children. The County Prosecutor, Michael C. O’Malley, commented, “His mother gained custody from his foster parents who raised and loved him, and she promptly beat him to death. She deserves to spend the rest of her life in prison.”

Michelle Moody, the boy’s foster mother, expressed her fatigue at Eggleton’s attempts to blame her actions on her past and her own upbringing during the sentencing hearing.

Eggleton’s arrest resulted from a police response to an emergency call regarding an unresponsive child in a stroller on June 14, 2023. The location of the incident was near East 79th Street and Euclid Avenue. Upon arriving, police officers transferred the boy to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office declared the boy’s death a homicide, citing blunt force trauma as the cause. Prosecutors added that Eggleton provided inaccurate information about the circumstances leading to her son’s death.

Eggleton must serve between 31 to 35 years before she can be considered for parole.
