HOUSTON, TX – A Houston mother remains behind bars, facing severe allegations of child abuse and neglect, as authorities unravel the disturbing details of her alleged mistreatment of her children. Marquita Purse, the accused, is charged with multiple counts of injury to a child, a third-degree felony, after police say she inflicted physical harm on her young daughter and son.
The allegations came to light after law enforcement officers responded to Purse’s residence in northwest Houston. There, they discovered her 4-year-old daughter had suffered multiple head injuries, reportedly from being struck and shaken by Purse. Her 6-year-old son was also allegedly a victim of physical abuse, and both children required medical attention for their injuries.
Medical personnel and officers at the scene observed visible injuries on both children, and the situation grew more alarming when the young ones revealed they had been left alone without food or water for nearly two days. Neighbors, who seldom saw the children outside, recounted seeing police officers at the apartment days before the arrest.
During the investigation, Purse allegedly attempted to instruct her children to withhold information from the police. Further examination of the apartment revealed deplorable living conditions, with holes in the walls, water damage, and clutter throughout. The son disclosed to officers that he had never been enrolled in school, raising additional concerns about the children’s welfare and education.
Child Protective Services, bound by confidentiality laws, could not confirm any previous investigations into Purse. However, they have now launched a formal inquiry in collaboration with the Houston Police Department to ensure the safety and well-being of the children.
As the investigation continues, Purse remains in custody, awaiting further legal proceedings. The case has sparked outrage and concern within the community, highlighting the urgent need for vigilance and intervention in cases of suspected child abuse.
