Newborn baby found abandoned in dumpster

BYHALIA, MS – A newborn girl was discovered abandoned in a car seat, swaddled in pink and blue blankets. She was found behind a dumpster in Byhalia, Mississippi, according to reports from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Wednesday night in the vicinity of the Grove of Cayce Mobile Home park.

According to a sheriff’s office investigator, the abandoned baby is Hispanic and appeared to be aged between 2-3 weeks. The baby was assessed to be in a “good” condition when Lifeguard Ambulance Service transported her to Le Bonheur Medical Center for medical care.

Sheriff Kelly McMillen of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office revealed to reporters on Friday that two people were in custody in relation to the heartbreaking incident. However, their identity has been withheld from the public while their charges are pending.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office had previously announced a “substantial reward” in exchange for credible information to the case. They are offering this reward for tips potentially leading to the baby’s parents or anyone who might have abandoned the baby.

Mississippi, as per its “safe haven” law, allows a parent to surrender their 45-day-old or younger child to an emergency medical services provider.
