NFL player shot after leaving strip club

DENVER, CO – Denver Broncos wide receiver Josh Reynolds and another individual sustained injuries in a shooting incident early Friday after leaving a local strip club. The incident took place shortly after 3 a.m. on Oct. 18, as documented in court records.

The Denver Police Department received multiple 911 calls from victims reporting a shooting in the vicinity of East Hampden Avenue and South Dahlia Street. One caller, driving a blue Ford Bronco, stated he had been shot. The phone call reportedly ended abruptly, and the caller appeared to be fleeing. Another caller informed emergency services that he was being pursued and that two of his friends had been shot, pleading for an ambulance. A third account to 911 involved someone reporting gunfire.

Authorities located the victims near South Quebec Street and East Union Avenue, including Reynolds, who suffered gunshot wounds to his left arm and the back of his head. A second man was shot in the back, and a third individual suffered injuries from shattered glass. All displayed signs of scrapes, possibly from scaling a fence.

The victims’ vehicle, discovered on southbound Interstate 25 near Belleview Avenue, showed evidence of multiple bullet holes. Cartridge casings were discovered nearby, indicating where shots were likely fired.

Following the public release of the incident details, the Broncos issued a statement confirming Reynold’s involvement in the shooting. They reiterated that the wide receiver was being supported by the team, assuring that his injuries were not severe enough to extend his stay on injured reserve. Reynolds had already been on a four-week rest due to a previous finger injury sustained in a game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Reynolds and the other victims initially visited Shotgun Willies in Glendale before two drivers began following them as they exited the venue. Gunshots were exchanged after the group got onto the highway, leading to their vehicle becoming inoperable.

Investigators reviewed video surveillance from the club, identifying Luis Mendoza as a suspect. Mendoza allegedly watched the victims in the club before trailing them as they left. Subsequent footage captured additional cars waiting and following the victims.

Later, two arrests were made. Luis Mendoza and Burr Charlesworth were apprehended in connection to the shooting. Charlesworth claimed his involvement was limited to following the victims, allegedly at a friend’s behest due to an earlier dispute. He, however, denied any shooting involvement.

Reynolds, 29, now in his eighth NFL season, joined the Broncos after stints with several other teams.
