Officer killed in murder-suicide

MCCOMB, MS – An off-duty police officer from McComb was tragically killed in what authorities have identified as a murder-suicide. The incident unfolded on Tuesday when the officer, Jason Blake, responded to a call for help at a house just outside the city limits.

According to the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, 34-year-old Clay Paulk forced his way into the residence on Cole Thomas Road. Armed with a shotgun, Paulk fatally shot Officer Blake and a woman named Nikki Wilson, with whom he had a prior relationship.

Investigators believe that after the shootings, Paulk used a handgun to take his own life. This heartbreaking event marks the second loss of a Pike County law enforcement officer to violence in the past year. Almost one year ago, Summit Police Officer Troy Floyd was killed in the line of duty.

Officer Blake, 30, had served on the McComb police force for over four years and had nearly two decades of law enforcement experience. He was previously with the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, where he was well-regarded by colleagues and the community.

Chief Earnest Perry of the McComb Police Department expressed the deep sorrow felt by the community, noting that Blake was much loved and respected. “It’s just a sad day for McComb right now,” he said.

Blake’s body was escorted to the state crime lab for an autopsy. He leaves behind a wife and several children, adding to the community’s grief and sense of loss.

The tragedy has left many residents shaken, as Officer Blake was known as a dedicated and good-hearted individual. The community is mourning not only the loss of a law enforcement officer but also a friend and neighbor.

As the investigation continues, authorities are working to piece together the events leading up to the incident, hoping to bring some clarity to this senseless act of violence.
