The single-vehicle crash happened Sunday afternoon on Southwest 168th Street and remains under investigation.
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL — One man was killed and another was critically injured Sunday afternoon after a Porsche carrying two people crashed into a pole on Southwest 168th Street in Southwest Miami-Dade, authorities said.
The crash happened at about 2:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating what caused the single-vehicle crash, including whether speed played a role.
Investigators said two men were inside the Porsche. One died at the scene. Emergency crews transported the second man to Jackson North Medical Center in critical condition. An updated condition for the surviving victim had not been reported.
Nearby residents rushed outside after hearing the impact and called 911. Brianna Fiallos, who was inside her kitchen when the crash occurred, told Local 10 News that she heard a loud boom before going outside with neighbors to see what had happened.
Video from the scene showed emergency personnel working around the heavily damaged vehicle and paramedics taking the surviving victim to an ambulance. A bystander described the force of the collision as severe enough to leave the Porsche split apart.
Investigators had not announced what caused the driver to lose control before the Porsche struck the pole. Authorities also had not said whether impairment, a mechanical problem, road conditions or another factor contributed to the crash.
The names and ages of the two men were not included in the initial information reported Sunday. Authorities had also not publicly detailed which occupant was driving the Porsche when the collision occurred.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit continued investigating the crash as of the latest report. Additional information, including the surviving victim’s condition and the findings on what caused the collision, remained pending.
