KANSAS CITY, MO – A deadly shooting took place in the early hours of Sunday in Kansas City, Missouri, near the Westport Entertainment District. The devastating gunfire resulted in one fatality and six injuries, according to the police.
The Kansas City Police Department received multiple reports of gunshots that were taking place near the intersection of Westport Road and Broadway around 1:20 a.m. When authorities arrived at the scene, the police officers discovered seven shooting victims, one of whom was unresponsive.
Emergency services transported the victims, including the unresponsive man, to a nearby hospital where doctors subsequently pronounced him dead. The other six victims’ injuries were deemed non-life-threatening by the police.
Preliminary investigations indicate that an aggravated confrontation involving a group of people near the intersection led to the shooting. Police suggested that there may have been multiple people involved in the incident. Currently, one person is detained.
With a large crowd of people potentially present near the shooting, the Kansas City Police Department appeals to anyone who may have heard or seen something to contact the homicide detectives directly or via the TIPS hotline. Anonymously shared information with the hotline might be eligible for a reward of up to $25,000.
