Police-involved shooting leaves 9 shot, 2 dead

DORAL, FL – A police-involved shooting at CityPlace Doral’s Martini Bar commenced early Saturday at around 3:30 a.m., resulting in nine individuals shot and two confirmed dead. The Martini Bar is located just off of Northwest 36th Street in Doral.

Authorities clarified that two uniformed officers were among the shooters, with one of them hit by a bullet. These Doral police officers had been dispatched to the scene following reports of gunfire at the Martini Bar.

The incident reportedly began with an altercation between some bar patrons, which spiraled out of control, leading to a security guard being fatally shot. Uniformed officers, already nearby for a late-night security detail, responded promptly to the incident. They got into a shootout with the suspect, which ended with the suspect’s death.

Of the two officers involved in the incident, one was injured and subsequently taken to a hospital. He is expected to make a full recovery. Six innocent onlookers– four men and two women– were caught in the crossfire. Two of these victims are in critical condition, while the others remain stable.

Investigators are trying to determine who shot the bystanders. “The officer shot and killed the subject, however, the officer also sustained a gunshot wound to the lower extremity,” stated Miami-Dade Police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta. Doral Police Chief Edwin Lopez added that the injured officer immediately applied a tourniquet to his own wound.

Both the murder and the officer-involved shooting are being investigated by Miami-Dade police and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, respectively. Representatives from the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office were also present. Multiple witnesses were taken into custody for questioning, and police report they are not looking for additional suspects.
