Security Guard Killed in South Seattle Drive-By Shooting

A 27-year-old woman was seriously injured, and police later found the suspected vehicle engulfed in flames elsewhere in South Seattle.

SEATTLE, WA — A 36-year-old nightclub security worker was killed and a 27-year-old woman was seriously injured early Sunday when a driver opened fire from a vehicle in a South Seattle club parking lot, police said.

Seattle police said multiple people called 911 shortly before 1 a.m. Oct. 11 to report gunfire in the 5800 block of Fourth Avenue South. Officers responding to the area found the man dead at the nightclub and the woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her leg. Police have not publicly released the identity of the man who was killed.

Officers provided aid to the injured woman until Seattle Fire Department medics arrived, according to the Seattle Police Department. She was taken to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition. Police had not announced an updated condition for her later Sunday.

Investigators said surveillance footage showed a vehicle entering the club’s parking lot before the driver fired multiple shots from inside the vehicle. The vehicle then left the property. Police have not released a description of the driver or announced whether investigators believe either victim was specifically targeted.

Less than an hour after the shooting, officers found the suspected vehicle fully engulfed in flames elsewhere in South Seattle, police said. Authorities did not immediately disclose the precise location where the vehicle was recovered or explain what evidence connected it to the shooting beyond the ongoing investigation and surveillance review.

The shooting occurred at an address identified in current business listings as Kittens Cabaret, a strip club at 5800 Fourth Avenue South. The Seattle Police Department referred to the location only as a nightclub in its initial public account and did not identify the business by name.

Detectives with the department’s Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Investigations Unit responded to examine the shooting scene and investigate what happened before the gunfire. Police had not announced an arrest or identified a suspect as of Sunday, and no possible motive had been publicly released.

The investigation remained active Sunday. Police said detectives were seeking video footage, information about possible suspects and other evidence that could help establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the burned vehicle.
